Luke 7: 36-50
Now one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, so he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. When a woman who had lived a sinful life in that town learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster jar of perfume, and as she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.
When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is – that she is a sinner.”
Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.” “Tell me, teacher,” he said.
“Two men owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he canceled the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?” Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt canceled.” “You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.
Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven – for she has loved much. But he who has been forgiven loves little.”
Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
Numbers 6: 24-26
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”

May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you: wherever he may send you;
may he guide you through the wilderness: protect you from the storm;
may he bring you home rejoicing: at the wonders he has shown you;
may he bring you home rejoicing: once again into our doors.

My favorite sentence in this is, “Do you see this woman?” Simon doesn’t answer, but I’m sure he’s thinking, “Yes, she’s right there.” But Jesus calls Simon to see her beyond what he thinks about her. It’s such a simple, beautiful question.

I love that, too, Kathi. Such a beautiful story. BTW, tell Brian that picture is amazing. I get to see the Steel Bridge next weekend – woohoo- going to Portland and the coast for a few days.

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

I went to bed last night at about 1:00am, slept until 9:00a or so, got up, fed the cats, and then went back to bed and slept until about 1:30p. I sure needed it. Thank you for the Matt Maher song. Great stuff.

As we journey along
On life’s wicked road
So selfish are we
For silver, platinum and gold
You can treasure your wealth
Your diamonds and your gold
But my friend it won’t save
It won’t save, your poor wicked soul
For when God calls
From his heavenly home on high
To your earthly wealth
Some how, no matter what you think
You must say goodbye
Then it’s useless to you
If you’ve strayed from the fold
Just don’t stray from the fold
For my friend, it won’t save
Oh, it won’t save your wicked soul
The rich man like all, Oh Lord
Will be judged at that time
But all of his wealth
Will be left behind
For no matter how much
Earthly wealth you get
Well, my friend it won’t save
Won’t save your poor wicked soul
Oh it won’t save
Oh, won’t save your poor wicked soul
Oh, no, it won’t save your poor wicked soul
It won’t save your soul

Thanks Kathi for today’s Sunday gathering.
Thanks Dash for The Blues! I have always loved The Blues, but had to listen to it in secret & not tell anyone at my cult/NeoCalvinist church.
Now I listen to it openly since I’m no longer at that stifling, insufferable church with NO life. Free, free at last.
