Drew Marshall Show Interview

I had been asked to post the link to the interview I did a couple Saturdays ago, on Canada’s #1 Christian talk show, The Drew Marshall Show.   Click on the SoundCloud clip (orange play button) at the bottom of the screen to hear the interview or listen direction from The Drew Marshall Show website.   Below is a screen shot from the website at the time (it has since changed).

  1. I’m not sure how I feel about the last few minutes. I don’t think that chalking up all of our exposure to abuse had to do with stupidity for even getting sucked into it in the first place. I had a hard time finishing the program.

WOW – What a great interview – Nice to hear your voice…

It sounded like Drew gets it.

Wanting to go from town to town and messing with, and messing up, those who are “the Spiritual Abusers.”

And Julie Anne says – “Can I come?”

    Priceless…

  3. Great job, Julie Anne! Nice to hear your story in your own voice. You speak with the same genuineness, grace and good humor with which you write.

  4. Amos, I forgot about that line, “Can I come?” That’s funny you caught that.

AnotherTom, yea, I’m pretty much the same online and offline – I do not mince words, sometimes too honest, hate abuse, and I feel laughter and sadness very deeply. What a combination, huh? lol You can tell a good interviewer when they can set you at ease and make you feel like you are just talking to them. Drew was good! I appreciated his heart.

  5. forgedimagination – I apologize. I had replied to this earlier and now I see that something must have happened and it didn’t take. I listened to the segment that you referred to again. I can definitely understand why that would be hard to listen to. I agree with both of you. It’s interesting because during the interview when I discussed some oddities about our church (shorts had to be at the knees or lower, no co-ed swimming, etc), the thought that came in my mind was: “oh boy, what are the listeners going to think of these whacked out rules? They are probably going to think I was so stupid to stay.” And sure enough, Drew hit on that point. It’s funny how in hindsight you can see the craziness. Does that mean we are stupid? That’s a good question. Because I can certainly see it now that remaining with those legalistic rules was foolish, but then, I was sucked in. I don’t know what the answer is. I understand the pain, but I also see that I clearly made foolish mistakes in remaining there far too long.

  6. “Beware of churches that have ‘Grace’ in their name.”

Sounds like a variant of the “People’s Republic of Tyranny” trope over at TV Tropes, where the more adjectives about “Democracy” or “The People” in a country’s official name, the nastier a dictatorship it is.
