Appeal to National Leaders Regarding C.J. Mahaney of Sovereign Grace Ministries

Earlier this week, Brent Detwiler issued an appeal to National Christian leaders regarding C.J. Mahaney.  A former Sovereign Grace Ministries member  has created an online petition with Brent’s permission so that our voices can be heard.  This post discussed proactive ways that we can get involved in getting our voices heard: Who is Going to Blast the Bullhorn on Abuse in Church?

Dee of Wartburg Watch wrote this excellent article to promote this appeal:

Breaking News: Historical On-line SGM Petition Calling out Silent Leaders

Please consider signing your name on this appeal below (linked) and make your voice count.  I have signed it and am #19 on the list.  Please share this on Facebook, on Twitter, via e-mail.  Let’s get this thing going viral.  Note:  If you are not on Facebook, but would like to sign, Marge has provided an alternative way to sign here.

  1. Thank you, Julie Anne! The way this came about was that in an online discussion, someone who I believe is a current SGM member (he might have left, but I’m not sure) expressed the wish that current and former members would have some way to co-sign Brent Detwiler’s letter, to let the national leaders know that they are concerned, too. I thought that was a great idea, so I set up the online petition in hopes that maybe these leaders might pay attention to us “little people” for a change. I appreciate your posting this here very much, Julie Anne. Hopefully, together, we can make a difference. By the way, anyone can sign it. You don’t have to have ever been associated with Sovereign Grace Ministries.

  3. I’m sorry about the Facebook issue. I’m going to see if there’s some alternative I can find for those who don’t want to use FB. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know! The good thing about using Facebook is that you are verified to be a real person when you sign the petition. I have seen online petitions before where people sign with names like Mickey Mouse and give fake email addresses, thus skewing the numbers. We don’t want that to happen.

  4. Hey all, I used Google Docs to add a link way at the bottom of the original petition, at Causes.com, under Update #1, where you can sign if you don’t have Facebook. The only thing is that the number of signatures on the Causes page won’t reflect those added on the alternative page.

  5. Done and shared. I am in Italy. Grace Communities have begun to enter this country, My dad was kicked out of his church – there was a plot – and now he has nothing. There is no Love, no Compassion, no Respect. I want to be part of those who are trying to make others aware of the background.

  6. Deborah, thank you. Your story sounds familiar to me. Have you shared it online somewhere? So many of these stories are really heart-breaking and it astounds me that the leaders carry on as if everything is fine.
