Sunday Morning Gathering Feedback

The Sunday Morning Gathering was started a few years ago as an informal way for those of us who were going through difficult church experiences to gather. It has morphed a little over the years, but pretty much maintained a consistent style of post each week.

Recently Julie Anne and I have noticed that the gatherings are not viewed as often as they were in the past. There’s nothing wrong with this. I’m wondering if this Sunday post has served it’s purpose and it’s time to move on, or if it really is a source of encouragement for everyone. We want this space to be helpful to you, so I am reaching out to ask your thoughts about these Sunday morning posts.

  • Are the Sunday morning gathering posts helpful to you?
  • If so, are there any changes that you would like to see to this post?
  • If not, would you like to have a weekly post that is simply for open dialogue?
  • If you would like an open dialogue post, would there be a better day than Sunday for you?
  • Do you have any other ideas to share?

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. We really do appreciate all of your continued reading, support, and encouragement. This space wouldn’t be the same without you!

  1. I appreciate the Sunday gathering posts and the idea behind them, but the whole reason I found my way to this blog in the first place is that I am done with church. Out. Gone. Never to return. Consequently, anything that even feels like church, however remotely, just doesn’t do anything for me, or more specifically, just makes me feel trapped all over again.

I’d prefer an open dialogue, maybe a discussion topic. I don’t even mind discussing Bible verses, I just don’t need to feel like I’m sitting in a pew hearing the equivalent of a sermon from a patriarchal man-pastor. Maybe “Here’s what this verse says to us, how do you feel about it?” Or “How about those Bears?” Anything so long as it isn’t a Sunday morning service.

  2. Thanks for your feedback, David. I understand what you’re saying.

Can we talk about the fact that the Cubs are in first place in their division right now?!! Yippee!

  3. I always appreciate and look at the beautiful photos that are published on Sunday mornings (like the one posted)… it gives me a peaceful lift. I know a lot of work goes into those posts, but I’m at a place in my life where sometimes I don’t feel alert or strong enough to think about a message anymore… I just want to feel at peace for a moment. A lovely photo and a brief, encouraging scripture or quote would be enough for me.

  4. I think it’s a nice thing but I still go to church on sunday mornings and am generally busy and/or taking internet breaks on sundays.

  5. Hi Kathi and Julie Anne,
I love your Sunday morning posts and look forward to them each week. Even though I have found a healthy church to be involved in, I work every other weekend. Your posts help me to have a worship time with Jesus even when by myself. Also, on the days I do go to fellowship I still start my Sunday mornings with your post and have my own time of worship. I appreciate all the time and effort that goes into providing us with these posts each week. I love the format and would not change a thing! Thank you!

  6. I know I don’t respond much. But I do enjoy them. Especially on Sundays when I can’t get to church for whatever reasons. Especially the music. Plus I like the continuity. I’ve always marveled when we see 3 Sunday posts in a row; then I think, well, maybe the “wolves in sheeps clothing” for lack of a better general term, are at least keeping quiet, if not maybe learning their lessons.
Thanks for asking. I just might use these for people I know who are “dones” to be able to share Christian fellowship. Or others who can’t get out for whatever reasons. Thanks for blessing me in that way.

  7. JPU – Thanks so much for you input. For myself, if I’m not writing anything in between the Sunday posts, it usually means I’ve got a lot going on in my life and I need a break.

Julie Anne and I have an understanding that taking care of yourself first is most important. My work (paid and volunteer) can be heavy at times. Adding on the heaviness of what we talk about here can feel overwhelming sometimes.
