Acts 10: 9 – 23

About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter, Kill and eat.”

“Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”

The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”

This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.

While Peter was wondering about the meaning of the vision, the men sent by Cornelius found out where Simon’s house was and stopped at the gate. They called out, asking if Simon who was known as Peter was staying there.

While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Simon, three men are looking for you. So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.”

Peter went down and said to the men, “I’m the one you’re looking for. Why have you come?”

The men replied, “We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man, who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to have you come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say.” Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests.

Psalm 6

O Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath. Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am faint; O Lord, heal me, for my bones are in agony. My soul is in anguish. How long, O Lord, how long?

Turn, O Lord, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love. No one remembers you when he is dead. Who praises you from the grave?

I am worn out from groaning; all night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears. My eyes grow weak with sorrow; they fail because of all my foes.

Away from me, all you who do evil, for the Lord has heard my weeping. The Lord has heard my cry for mercy; the Lord accepts my prayer. All my enemies will be ashamed and dismayed; they will turn back in sudden disgrace.

Proverbs 11: 2

When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you: wherever he may send you;

may he guide you through the wilderness: protect you from the storm;

may he bring you home rejoicing: at the wonders he has shown you;

may he bring you home rejoicing: once again into our doors.

  1. Asking for prayers for me & my family. My heart is broken this morning, my niece was a victim of domestic abuse last night, she is now a none, she had too many toxic church experiences. Please pray that Jesus will comfort her & guide her to find compassionate care/therapist. I grew up in a abusive family & this news has triggered me into anxiety zone.

  2. Just in case, a request. Please do not share my request on other blogs for reasons of confidentiality. Not everyone in my family will be informed.

  4. I’m so sorry, Gail. Best to your niece in finding a good therapist. You can probably research for people who have experience in this area or ask your local shelter for recommendations maybe? 😦

  5. Gail, I’m so sorry to hear this. Please let us know if we can help you find domestic violence resources in her area. We’ve done that a number of times for people and would be happy to help!

  6. Thanks everyone! I truly appreciate the prayers, my anxiety has dissipated, now I just feel angry. We got a recommendation for a therapist from a trusted source. Thankful that she isn’t married to Mr. Sucketh Domestic Abuser.

  7. I’m new to the community, but like many of you, have been through spiritual abuse on a few separate occasions. It was enough to make me want to run from God’s people altogether, but seeing my own kids’ develop in their walk with God makes me believe He still cares. Doubt and anxiety are my daily companions. My marriage suffers because my husband can’t “fix” me. I have both good and bad days. This site has helped me tremendously.
