Psalm 146

Praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord, O my soul. I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing.

Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them – the Lord, who remains faithful forever.

He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets prisoners free, the Lord gives sight to the blind, the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down, the Lord loves the righteous.

The Lord watches over the alien and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.

The Lord reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations.

Praise the Lord.

May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you: wherever he may send you;

may he guide you through the wilderness: protect you from the storm;

may he bring you home rejoicing: at the wonders he has shown you;

may he bring you home rejoicing: once again into our doors.

  1. Let me take a guess. The wonderful opening photo is the north tower of Golden Gate Bridge, taken from somewhere on or near the south shore of Marin Headlands, with San Francisco in the background. If so, it would be sunrise, maybe around the time of one of the equinoxes?

    Not that anybody cares, but it was a week ago today I drove across Golden Gate Bridge for the first time. It was a high tension adventure, with the first shot of adrenalin having been injected when, traveling at 65 MPH, I looked down from studying some confusing overhead signs just in time to skid to a stop before impacting the car ahead of me, which had come to a dead stop. It had to have been a God thing.

  2. Gary W – I’ll have to find out where my husband was standing when he got this shot. All I know is that, yes, it is the Golden Gate Bridge which is in San Francisco! 😉 And, yikes! What a scary experience! I’m glad to hear that you were not hurt.

  3. Gary W- Holy Macaroni, I am glad to hear that you were not hurt. FWIW, I was flying down the highway passing a semi truck last week, when I noticed there was a huge ladder laying in the road. Semi truck was next to me so I had no where to go. I ran over it with my left front & rear tires. Talk about adrenalin! I was shaking like a leaf. It had to be a God/guardian angel thing because my car didn’t have any damage, tires didn’t blow. Called 911 and they said an officer was on his way already to remove it.

  4. Thank-you for the wonderful service this morning, Kathi. I loved the Psalm you posted and will be meditating upon its words all day wherever I go. God’s Words are so great! I also love the musical selections posted. The selections moved my soul to tears in realizing just how Great our God is and how very much loved we are by Him. One day, when we stand before Jesus, we will truly understand and the experience the width and the depth of His love. Rejoice!

    In agreement with Gary W., what an amazing pic! God be with all of you today!

  5. If you would pray for my 14-y.o. boy. We had a long moment of crisis with him yesterday. Scary for us as parents. We have a lot to work out, and I think we will.

  6. Gary W. and Gail, I’m so glad that you both unharmed by a situation that could have ended tragically. Thank God for that.

    Kathi, I will continue to pray for you and your family. I don’t know why kids weren’t born with manuals. This parenting thing is tough.

  7. Here’s a film clip from you tube. It’s not very ‘Churchy’ but it’s uplifting. Underneath the obvious message, there’s a not so obvious message:
    Sometimes the worst prisons are the ones we sentence ourselves to…

  8. Muff Potter- That was magnificent! I don’t want or need “churchy” to uplift me. In Him we live & move & have our being. I appreciate the not so obvious message.

  9. gm370, I like to interpret these sorts of things as an indication that our Lord still has a purpose for us before He takes us home. Regarding my close call, maybe it is the people in the cars ahead of me for whom He has some purpose.

    Kathi, thanks for the information. Your prayer request is noted. I am not very good at this sort of thing, but I have prayed.

  10. Kathi,

    Like Gary said, great pic!

    Gary W, speed limit’s 45, bro! Anyway, great interpretation of the picture. Kathi’s husband said October. With the bridge being only a few degrees from true N/S, the location of the sunrise would put it in…early fall. I love trying to place photos in time and space. A good challenge.

  11. I’m late to the party.

    Gary and Gail, praises to our Creator for your safety. Muff Potter–that is one of the best segments of the Shawshank Redemption. Kathi-praying for your family. I know how tough it can be with a 14 year old boy or girl. They’re at a scary point in life. Katy, I liked this service also, Sister. Looking forward to the day we meet him face to face.

    The sermon at church yesterday morning was inspiring. The pastor was talking about Jesus–that should be a duh!! truth right? Not always. He repeated that it is Jesus + nothing that saves us. I don’t think he realized it (or maybe he did), but he mentioned Church membership, baptism, constantly doing good works, going to church as a few of those +’s. Believing in Jesus is all it takes. Nothing else is essential at all.

  12. This weekend we visited our son, his fiancee and future in-laws outside of Atlanta. I was nervous about visiting their church. I was pleasantly suprised by both the service and my reaction. It was a small church with some female elders! I did not get angry or depressed during the service for the first time in ages. Maybe there is a church for me out there!
    I love seeing your pictures on Sundays as I am in the Southeast and don’t recognize anything!! A happy week to all!

  13. Ann,
    That is great news. Seeing your son, a new daughter-to-be, in-laws and a church that felt good. They are out there, you just have to keep looking.
