“That’s the Jesus I follow. I don’t know WHO Creflo Dollar is preaching about”

Mega-church Pastor Creflo Dollar wants a $65 million jet and more fish stories defending the exorbitant expense

Mega-church Pastor Creflo Dollar has been in the news lately. Earlier this month, he sent out an appeal for 200,000 to donate $300 each so he could purchase a $65 million jet.

A Creflo Dollar spokesperson said in an interview on March 13 that Dollar needed the Gulfstream G650 to carry thousands of pounds of food and other supplies, as well as the word of God, worldwide. (Source)

Uh-huh. Yea, I want to see this mega pastor in a jet crammed with food and supplies. The kind of food and supplies they are talking about is caviar and scuba diving gear. Who are they trying to kid?  I wonder how much salary Creflo Dollar’s spokesperson makes? He’d have to make more than peanuts in order to tell fish stories like that, don’t you think?

My friend, Kevin Oliver of NotYourTypicalNegro posted this YouTube video of a pastor who sure seems legit. Here is the transcript:

“Look, the bottom line is this. This is ludicrous, it’s insulting. Uh, I think at some point these mega-churches are going to come down, people are going to open their eyes, and we should NOT pimp the poor so that we can have a private jet and a private lifestyle that doesn’t benefit the congregation or the city, or people who are the least, the lost and the left out.

Jesus said, “I was hungry, come feed me. I’m in prison, come visit me.” THAT’S the Jesus I follow. I don’t know WHO Creflo Dollar is preaching about.”

  1. I’m thinking that for far less than 65 million bucks, he could get Atlanta or Jersey-based international shippers to get those supplies where he needs them far more quickly than his organization can, whether it be caviar or cholera medicine, and that Hartsfield, JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark all serve as hubs for major airlines. As a double bonus, he could theoretically talk about Christ with people on the plane while he’s going there.

Why so many megachurch pastors insist on isolating themselves from those they claim to serve is beyond me, except for the fairly uncharitable assumption on my part that it probably isn’t about serving people for a lot of them.

  3. BTW Kevin Oliver has dealt with YouTube legally before. He had his account taken down after posting about a wayward pastor, sued YouTube and won!

I just alerted Kevin about this.

  4. How about operating sustainable farms in those places so you don’t need jets to take food there in the first place? I bet $65M could go a long way for that.

We have a couple friends who began a ministry in Ethiopia where they work in villages to improve animal husbandry and farming, as well as women’s health and children’s literacy. They’re based in Colorado and travel to Ethiopia often, and have been doing so for over 20 years. So far my friends have not expressed the need for a private jet.

  6. Here’s another helpful video by Kevin Oliver (that hasn’t been removed) where he tears apart tactics used Creflo Dollar. I’ve had some conversations with Kevin. He has experienced spiritual abuse and really gets it. He’s a great guy who has used YouTube as his way of getting the truth out about bullies in the pulpit:

  7. I wonder if Creflo Dollar worships at the alter singing this Janis Joplin song! ( ;

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a color TV ?
Dialing For Dollars is trying to find me.
I wait for delivery each day until three,
So oh Lord, won’t you buy me a color TV ?

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a night on the town ?
I’m counting on you, Lord, please don’t let me down.
Prove that you love me and buy the next round,
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a night on the town ?

    Everybody!
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends,
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

    That’s it

  10. What a profound perversion of the Gospel. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Alpha and Omega, and let’s not forget, the one who spoke the Universe into existence, when he walked this Earth, lacked the money to pay his taxes. So, he sent Peter fishing. And He had no place to lay His head. Yet, Dollar, who falsely claims to serve this Christ, has the audacity, in Christ’s name, to ask followers for $65 million for a jet. Unbelievable. How about $65 to feed the hungry, or $65 million to aid those who suffer in Christ’s name? Hell awaits Dollar with open arms and withering flames.

  12. Well, I certainly appreciate your comment. However, I, for one, would not be so presumptuous as to editorialize the statement made by Him who created all that we can see and all that we cannot simply by the power of His spoken word, e.g., let there be light, and out of a vast void of darkness and nothingness came the vast wonder we call the Universe and all that is in it, including matter at the sub-atomic level. 🙂

  13. I really do hope Mr. Hinn gets better. I remember this one back in the day, boy he can work a crowd. I wish I had that type of hubris. I feel awful getting kids involved in any type of fund raising or emotional fund raising. I know that is pathetic, stupid and even disgusting on my part. Hinn seems not to struggle with such nonsense. Hinn really works the business and leverages the Awe factor when it comes to kids, I am sure he sees a good ROI I find it troubling but like I said, Im stupid.

  14. One way people can attempt to make themselves feel important is by associating with people who are perceived as being important. There is probably a technical term for it, but I will call it narcissism by proxy. One way of associating with important people is to follow them, such as by being a member of the church/private kingdom of which they are the alpha male…er, I mean pastor. The more prominent and important your pastor, the better you feel about yourself. What better way to make your pastor look prominent, important, grand and glorious than by buying him the worlds most expensive private jet?

I dare say that these self-appointed pastors/stallions/alpha studs recognize this dynamic and milk it for all it’s worth. (Now, maybe it’s unfair to refer to these charlatans as studs, but then just think how prominent sexual misconduct is amongst those who populate the Inner Rings of organized religion–though I’m not at all accusing Mr. Dollar or Mr. Hinn specifically.)

  15. What kind of a nut names himself “Dollar”?
I mean, that cannot be his real name……Having observed this guy in action in the past, I am not at all tempted to watch him bilk folks out of their savings.

  16. JA, Have you considered raising money for a better form of transportation to your classes? Maybe not a jet, but a limo and driver. It will give you enough room to keep a cooler of Pepsi and ham sandwiches to give out to the needy on your way to class. As God leads, you may require a bigger garage for your holy limo and a comprably sized mansion to attach to your new garage. With a mansion so large, you will need a cleaning crew . With all the time you will be riding in your limo and blessing the poor with Pepsi and Ham sandwiches, you will need helpers to make those sandwiches and while they are already there they can prepare your family’s filet mignon. I mean if Cleflo can have a jet, why can’t you get a measly limo?? 🙂

  17. If you preach the prosperity gospel, then you *must* have a lavish lifestyle. There is no other option, because *you* are the product that you’re selling. “God will bless you with riches if you do what I say.” The people see that it worked for you (because look at all you have!) and so it gives them “evidence” that the system works. “Hey, God really wants me to be rich. Look what he did for my pastor! Maybe if I try harder, or give a little more, or….etc.”

This leads to the double-bind situation talked about on a number of ex-Mormon sites that keeps people there. Perhaps that’s one reason why the folks in the pews can’t connect the fact that the pastor is rich because he bilks money from them and the average person will never achieve anywhere near that. The desire to have more money or stuff is probably a strong reason they stay as well.. Also, once there, deferment to authority is another that keeps questions to a minimum.

  18. There are some people with the name “Dollar”. There used to be a pastor of a church in Kansas City whose last name was Dollar. I figured he was ok until I looked him up online. I don’t think he was black however.

  19. In these days concerning the American church system, the individual is considered a “nut,” a “basket case”, a “weirdo”, a “loony toon”, when one chooses to follow Jesus and His Word through His Holy Scriptures. And His Holy Name is ever so absent from the minds and hearts of most who attend 501c. 3’s…..for when one speaks the Name of Jesus and the truths they are learning from the Bible in conversations following the orchestrated church service…..people think you are crazy….or….one of those “Jesus freaks.” You are looked upon as “odd.”

It is far easier in American Christianity(?) to name drop the worldly name of this preacher man and that pastor man, or perhaps this great speaker/teacher/pastor woman and their wonderful teachings than it is the Name of Jesus and His Teachings…..is HE not our Great Shepherd? I too, fell hook, line, and sinker for the bait of religious humanism (called Christianity here in our nation), swallowing the worm of lies from these famous charlatans, and being accepted and loved by those in the 501c. 3 church I attended. I was loved just as long as I followed “their” religious leaders…. most of which are featured on Trinity Broadcasting Network and God TV.

I finally came out of this church system where the names, books, cd’s and dvd’s, conferences, outdoor music festivals, the latest and greatest “works competitions” amongst the people were held in higher esteem than Jesus and His teachings. These celebrity preachers and teachers boast and brag of the wonders of themselves, meanwhile Jesus humbly and freely went to that cross for the remission of our sins. Where is the boasting and bragging from Jesus who laid down His life so that we may have eternal life with Him?

It is the least of these who witness far greater, the glorious Gospel of Jesus, the Christ, in these last days, than those who believe they are “something in man’s eyes.” The man with no name who Praises Jesus may be far greater in the Kingdom of God than the earthly man with a great name.
