Psalm 62:5-8

(5) Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him.

(6) He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.

(7) My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.

(8) Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him,

for God is our refuge.

  1. Julie Anne, I like to adapt old hymns and this is one of my favourite, it is from a hymn by William Orcott Cushing (1897), it goes very well with the Bible verse you have chosen. I wrote this in 2011.

    ‘Under His Wings’

Under His wings I am safely abiding,
He is my fortress, my refuge and strength,
I know He will keep me, sheltered, protected,
There I find comfort and there I am blest.

Under His wings what a precious enjoyment,
He has redeemed me and I am His child,
Resting in Jesus I’m safe and secure,
Under His wings my soul shall abide.

  2. That’s beautiful, rhondajeannie. Thank you!

Special thanks to Kathi, for putting this post together. I love the Rich Mullins song. Kathi’s husband is a photographer and took the photo. I’ve been to that old grist mill. It’s gorgeous there.

  3. rhondajeannie – I do appreciate hymns and I loved it when hymns would pop up in church. We had one music pastor who was able to do a good job at “modernizing” the music for hymns.

I also covet your prayers. I have had to file for a legal separation/divorce. My three adult daughters and SIL’s tolerate me. They have changed their ways and are very much into Yoga and other philosophies. My husband’s three false professions of faith have taken a toll and all family including my siblings have pushed me away; I do not have a local church due to the apostasy in this small community. My daughters only want to hear from me if I speak positively of their lives – after homeschooling, birth to senior yrs I now receive the silent treatment if I mention Christianity or home education.

Thanks for listening – could have posted this on the prayer request but I must be careful about others identifying me.

    IN CHRIST, Beverley

  5. Beverley,

Welcome to SSB – I passed along your note to Kathi (and removed the personal info). I’m sorry to hear about your separation/divorce. You’re in a difficult place and I will pray for you.

  6. I love that Rich Mullins song and the scripture. I really needed both this morning.

I came across this song a few weeks ago when looking up some Cece Winans songs. I never knew before this that “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” was a gospel inspired song. Cece and Whitney sing it with such soul that it’s hard to not be moved.

  7. Psalm 62:5-8 is perfect for today and these times. Been absent for awhile. Been very sick from chemo and complications, in and out of the hospital. Got served with divorce papers in the middle. Hitting brick walls on seeking accountability with the pastors you’d think one of three of the mainstream denominations represented in this merry bunch of man boy womanizing pastors would hold one of them accountable even if they are an independent church (sorry, non profit corp with the state and no oversight with 7 spinoff nonprofits). Worst, my children not speaking because of the slanderous “christians” involved hurts worse than fight two potential terminal diseases. I have poured my heart out to Him, He is my only refuge in this living hell.

  8. John,
I’m glad you’re here. I’m sorry that you are going through so much. Divorce is not easy and being sick just adds to the problem. How did pastors from different denominations all get involved between you and your wife? I’m assuming that your wife was taking her story to anyone who would listen. I was divorced in 2013 after 2 decades of abuse and no one would listen. I was told that I should stay with X because this life was only for a little while and I should think about eternity. At the time, the only person who really heard me was my counselor. I was fortunate that I came across a woman who goes to a church who believes in divorce for abuse, abandonment and adultery. She was truly sent by God.

The songs and scripture that are put here each Sunday do my heart so much good. God’s creation and his Word fills my soul to overflowing.

  10. Thank you Kathi and Brenda R. Brenda, it was (is) an independent church run by 3 pastors, all from different denominations, kicked out of their previous churches for affairs and such. They have no elders or oversight. They are it. It is very cultish. Just found out today I am in heart failure again for the first time since 4 years ago due to chemo induced percarditus . Has a syringe take fluid from around my heart. This is a nightmare

  11. John,
That makes total sense to me. I go to an independent bible church, but the pastors are devoted to Jesus and their families. It is strange though one believes in the rapture, the other doesn’t. I don’t believe that a situation like yours would happen. Now they would however try to keep marriages together that shouldn’t be together. I continue to pray for you, I pray that you have the strength and faith of Job, no matter what awaits you next.

  12. Brenda R, thank you again. Yes, the opposite is often true and sad too. As I have commented before, investigated some homicides and horrible abuse in those types of situations and it was revealed that the victims had reached out to pastoral leadership and were sent back to it. One was a 4 year old girl brutally beaten to death by her foster mother and the father and others had reached out for help. Horrible.thank you for your continued prayers and love.
