Nine months ago – – possibly around the time Phillips was booted out of his teaching elder gig at Boerne Christian Assembly – – this video was uploaded.  The title of this article is a direct quote from the video.  Need I say any more?

Sorry, I cannot seem to embed the video here.  As inconvenient as it is to click on links, I don’t think you’ll want to miss this one.

  1. Am I misunderstanding? I take it that when he says “the twinkle of wonder is all about me” he’s using “about” in the usage to mean “around”, that it’s all around him.

  2. He definitely enjoys emotional manipulation.

On another note . . . that has to be the largest podium I have ever seen!

  4. All I could hear is my college roommate making fun of him. I’ve always been easily impressed but was fortunate to have 2 mentors and a college roommate with the gift of discernment. Any one of the 3 would have been giggling in my ear, making fun of the man. A younger me would have been saying “Wow!” but they would have just laughed and I would have seen the Emperor was wearing no clothes. I’ve learned I need to have people with discernment in my life – helps keep my feet on the ground.

  5. Oh my gosh I am laughing so hard! I was watching that twinkle twinkle video of Doug and dinosaurs on my iPhone on the couch (too loud I guess) and my kids all ran over. When he got to the crescendo my 11 year old said “is that man crazy dad?” “Yes…yes he is, I better shut this off!”

  6. FYI: To the commenter who left 2 recent comments that I unapproved, I’m not going to be publishing comments regarding drama from other blogs. That’s just not cool. Thanks!

  7. I know you warned me about having an empty stomach. But after 3 hours of work on healthcare.gov tonight, I was enjoying some hot chocolate with cake vodka to recover. And it’s a good thing there was a bit of alcohol involved, because I could not have watched all of this otherwise.

All I could think was: “He’s THIS happy about stealing credit for someone else’s work on the dinosaur dig?”

I think his “twinkle of wonder” must be about some mind-altering substances he’s taking. Or else, how phony can you get?

  8. how sad he doesn’t get this excited about Jesus…honestly, I have done this before…you know, put on music and just let my mind wander..I have journaled and sketched my “thoughts” in the privacy of my own journal…but NEVER would I publish it!!!!! In fact, I have burned most of those journals!! Don’t even want my kids to read those after I am gone!!!! Yea, I am with the rest of you…this guy is nuts!!!!!! I was laughing out loud through the whole of the video…almost embarrassed for him! Wonder if he will feel embarrassed in the coming years by this video…nay, probably not!

  9. “Ah look at that! It’s a giant brachiosaur with his head coming up! And over in the field, just over there, there’s the pachycephalosaurus! And right behind it there’s some stegosaur that’s coming up…and the crescendo is building is building can you believe it?…There they are, the dinosaurs are coming back!… Because who can get enough dinosaurs?!”

Well, I know I can never get enough dinosaurs. And now this man has become one too! Yay!

  10. And his name is “Duggyphilliposaurus. Who ever said that we aren’t still discovering fossil species? Over in the field, just over there…see him? And he’s mine, I tell ya. I found him first, who cares who else was digging him up, and on whose property? And if I broke his head taking him out, so what, it was already cracked anyway? W00t

Oh Patrice! How hilarious. Thanks for a full belly chuckle this morning!!!! 😉

  12. I had no idea who this guy was until I read about him here. However, I thought that video was a beautiful performance, and teaching on the power of music to set a scene. Of course I enjoy Quentin Tarrentino films, even though I think something is just not right about the guy. Talent and charisma doesn’t imply morality, character or integrity… or even sanity.

  14. He’s at a film festival, not in a church. He was moved by some music in a film and is trying to convey what he felt when he first heard and saw it. It’s easy to laugh at people when they are enthusiastic about something, because they are revealing a childlike vulnerability. I wonder if the reactions would be the same if none of you knew that it was Doug Phillips.

  15. Jeff Brown – I’m a musician and you can be sure that when I am teaching music to high schoolers, I talk just like Phillips – maybe even more animated (because musicians are weird). You are absolutely right – the reaction would not be the same if it weren’t Phillips.

Guilty as charged! I needed to laugh after a heavy blog weak both visibly and behind the scenes – and this provided it for me. These are tough issues. I’m sorry if you think it’s in poor taste. I do have a warped sense of humor. 🙂

  16. Jeff Brown, if he had a genuine personality I might agree. But since he has a passion for emotional manipulation, he just comes across as corny and fake and it appears yet another attempt to draw people into his money making schemes. He’s putting on a show to appear genuine and artistic. And he fails.

  17. Julie Anne, Well done, you! (your 8:37) I thought the video was really beautiful and powerful, but I didn’t really don’t know who the guy is. I really respect that you “owned up” on your post at 8:37PM. That shows integrity. Thank you!

  18. Jeff Brown….ok, I admit it…I was a bit harsh. But hey, like the others, I needed a good laugh (it’s been a long, long weekend). And while I believe the guy is as manipulative as they come, laughing ‘at’ him isn’t real nice either. I stand corrected. (but I still think Patrice’s comment about the ‘Duggyphilliposaurus’ is hilarious!!)

  19. @ Jeff Brown… Nice try Doug, we know that is you. Quit trying to clear your name and take your acting skills somewhere else. How about France? I hear they love short men dressed in character.

  20. All right, I have to say I’m laughing, but my favorite comment was from Kay–“How sad that he doesn’t get this excited about Jesus.” Cause that’s not what he’s about.

  21. What a blessing to hear how others navigate parenting, schooling and mirroring how to walk through this life in the loving hands of our mighty God. I attended a church for 16 years that preached VM doctrine unknown to me…I worked outside the home, children went to mostly public school (youngest went to public grade school, Christian middle school, homeschooled and public high school). While going to this church I felt I was on the outside, constantly judged for my career, not giving my sons the best education-homeschooling, and yet the Holy Spirit gave me new life in Christ, peace that surpasses all understanding, and opened my eyes to the grace He provided me to love those outside. Bringing the truth of the gospel to those in darkness, trusting Him. He is more than able to save my son’s, wherever they have been educated.
I have no regrets, mistakes I have made Christ has redeemed…He has given me a hope that never fades.
I am thankful that judgement and lies are always revealed in God’s perfect timing…and He truly does refine each and every one of His children.
JA has helped me understand how VM snuck into our church, perverting the truth with the lie.
Today my husband and I attend a church that preaches the gospel and trusts the Holy Spirit to lead the church to our MIGHTY SAVIOR, we are very blessed. BTW, one blessing of the old church, I met the Smith family of whom I love dearly!

  22. Meaghan,

Although it happened in an unintended, backhanded way, there is another blessing that grew out of your old church. If the old church’s pastor hadn’t sued his congregants (weren’t you one of them?) for half a million dollars, lots and lots of people would never have heard of Julie Anne (or her daughter or you). The thing of it is, Julie Anne now has a bigger ministry than Pastor CON can likely ever hope to have–and I don’t mean bigger just in terms of numbers of people impacted. I mean bigger, much bigger, in terms of the good done, including especially good done setting captives free.

  23. Julie Anne – I understand, believe me. I have a warped sense of humor also, and sarcasm is far from being unknown to me. Anyway, thanks for not being defensive (so refreshing and unusual for a blogger), and for saying that I’m not Doug Phillips.

The fact that I am a major movie buff obviously influenced my comment, which came out a little harsher than I intended. I’m very sympathetic to people when they enthuse over a film, even when they sound silly doing it.

  24. J.A. I keep trying to read your story but keep getting interrupted (sorry, homeschool kids running around here by day, husband and too much stuff at night). I don’t know if you have ever seen Reddit but sometimes they have TL:DR at the bottom of a long post to summarize (Too long, didn’t read). But I really want to know your story, I just haven’t found time for 13 parts. Can you give me a synopsis of what happened to you, was it related to Doug Phillips directly or a similar church? Sorry, I will get around to reading it soon I promise, just wondering if you can give me a TL:DR summary.
